Schedule hacking!

I want to do this. My favorite parts:
  • morning question
  • “put things in their places”
  • evening question

I also want to take this as an opportunity to work in some habits I want to develop, e.g. exercise, writing and reflection on the day’s events.

What would my old man schedule look like? Here is a provisional, highly structured old man schedule, which I intend to pursue for the rest of the semester:

7 am
Get Up. Do it. It doesn’t matter how cute Yang looks in his state of disheveled abandon, or how warm his feet are compared to 8 hours earlier, or how nice it would be to hide in the crook of his arm for a few more minutes. Get up.

7–8 am
Do exercises on FitFu for 10 minutes. Brush teeth. Select and don clothing of the day. Eat breakfast thoughtfully. Consider the morning question. No media yet, just me and the world inside my apartment.

8–8:30 am
Check personal email and calendar. Reply to all messages as time allows; resist flagging for later (which, admit it, will never come). Then close the email tab and be done with it.

8:30–9 am
Work email. Construct task list for the morning.

9 am–12 pm
Client work. Resist distractions.

12 pm–1 pm
Lunch and reading from an old-fashioned, brick-and-mortar-published Book.

12 pm–1:30 pm
Flex time – relax, finish homework, read 1-2 articles online. Resist the urge to check email again.

1:30–5:30
If (afternoon class) {

1:30–2 pm
Travel to school2–5 pm
Attend class

5–5:30 pm
Consolidate and annotate class notes with remaining thoughts

}
else {

1:30–2 pm
Work on Goals for the Day (identified over breakfast)5–5:30 pm
Light dinner

}

5:30–9:30
If (evening class) {

5:30–6 pm
Travel to school

6–9 pm
Attend class

9–9:30 pm
Consolidate and annotate class notes with remaining thoughts

}

else {

Continue with Goals for the Day or attend an event

}

9:30–10 pm
Personal email. Same rules as before.

10–11:30 pm
“Puttings things in their places,” reflection, go over notes from the day, ponder evening question, write informally.

11:30 pm–12 am
Come in for a landing. Wash, don PJs, attempt to convince Yang to stop working, crawl into bed, fall asleep.

12 am
I should be asleep now. It doesn’t matter if the pixels aren’t all in the right place, or I forgot to do something, or the day isn’t done with me yet. Sleep.
