Behavior modification (Wikipedia)
Behavior modification (Wikipedia)
Was curious about the scientific approach to “behavior change,” something that gets discussed a lot in ixd projects. This brought back memories of high school psych class and Ms. Lynn saying “But behaviorism has fallen from grace!”. Behavior change is not quite the same as behavior modification, which is founded on the empirical principles of behavioralism. I can understand why ixd doesn’t embrace its techniques (too reductivist, too focused on observable & repeatable patterns, presumes the ‘user’ is maladaptive and in need of ‘correction’, etc.) but still good to review some stuff from outside the ixd world once in a while.
