Ethan Zuckerman wants you to eat your (news) vegetables — or at least have better information (Nieman Journalism Lab)
Interesting idea: if we can show people the “nutritiousness” of the media that they consume, would they change their consumption patterns for the better? He’s betting that they would, and points to the quantified self movement as a source of inspiration.
The big problem right now is that it’s hard for computers to tell what you’re reading/watching, so it can’t assign a nutritional value. I’m fairly confident in a few years we’ll have this all figured out, though. And when that happens, imagine all the other things we can quantify based on what we read online: maybe emotions or personality? Step aside, personality quizzes of the 90s! :O
